Thoughtworks Arts Exhibition at SPRING/BREAK for Armory Week 2018

The work of Thoughtworks Arts artists were exhibited together at the closely-watched SPRING/BREAK Art Show in March 2018. The exhibition took place at 4 Times Square as part of New York’s Armory Week.

The exhibition, sponsored by the media art center Harvestworks, was comprised of works incubated by Thoughtworks Arts programs over the last four years. This includes work from Art-A-Hack and the Thoughtworks Arts Residency, and by the directors of these programs, Andrew McWilliams and Ellen Pearlman, who are also practicing artists.

On August 2, 2017 Heather Dewey-Hagborg in conjunction with Chelsea Manning had a show “A Becoming Resemblance” at Fridman Gallery in New York.

Included in the exhibit was the piece Heather had created during her Thoughtworks Arts Residency, the graphic short story Suppressed Images, developed with illustrator Shoili Kanungo.

Welcoming Karen Palmer to the Thoughtworks Arts Residency

We are delighted to welcome our latest art resident Karen Palmer to Thoughtworks. Karen joins us for the fall 2017 season to work on a project looking at Artificial Intelligence, facial recognition and storytelling.

Karen came to New York a little early and was able to attend the opening of previous resident Heather Dewey-Hagborg’s opening at Fridman Gallery last month.

I was pleased to be asked to present our work at a recent TEDx event in Lithuania. The video has just been posted online.

My talk looks at how technology can be used as an artistic medium to explore the future. It covers topics of trans-humanism and cyborgism, genetic privacy, brain surveillance and climate change.

Karen Palmer Awarded Thoughtworks AI Residency

The Thoughtworks Arts AI Residency has been awarded to Karen Palmer, a London-based digital filmmaker and storyteller, to further develop her interactive film, RIOT.

RIOT, an emotionally responsive, live-action film with 3D sound uses AI technology, machine learning, and facial recognition to navigate through a dangerous riot in progress.
